    why teak?

Teak is known world-wide as one of the most valued and best paid noble woods. Valued in Asia for centuries, the Dutch spice dealers introduced teak wood to Europe. It became highly estimated - because of its beautiful gold-brown colour and also of its hardness, weather and sea-resistance, durability and its good manufacturing properties. Besides decking, teak is used for the furniture production and interior fittings. It is converted to parquet and has little competition in its special ranges of application, the boat building and the garden furniture production. The teak quality has to meet the requirements of First European Quality (F.E.Q.), Special Selected (SS), planking wood for Cruise Vessels.
Teak decks are used on Cruise Ships to give a traditional finished appearance; besides the beutiful looks, the deck is comfortable to stand on, in both warm and cold conditions, and the surface lasts for decades.

    Traditional Teak Deck

The teak deck is constructed in the traditional way. First the steel deck is trated with a protective coating against corrosion. The next step is to level uneven surface with a levelling compound. The planks are then fixed to the steel deck with stainless steel studs and hex nuts with a thin layer of glue between levelling compound and planks. The holes above the hex nuts is filled with teak plugs, and the sandable caulking is applied. Finally all is sanded to give the deck an authentic appearance. Measurements: teak plank thickness: 35-50 mm teak plank width: 100-125 mm groove size: 7 x 15 mm marginal plank: 125 - 180 mm weight of ready deck: 38 - 48 kg/m2

    Preliminaries

To ensure a professional finish, the decking area is securely defined by a 20 x 5 mm stainless steel coaming (Traditional teak deck: 30 - 45 x 5 mm).

❚ Tolerance of the steel deck is +/- 3 mm.

❚ The deck must be primed carefully. Weather covering has to be installed to protect against direct sunshine and rain during the installation, during cold weather, the working area must be heated to a minimum of 5°C.

❚ The starting points, main lines and decorative details are selected carefully to give the most pleasant appearance and the most economic use of the teak.

    Teak Maintenance

Wash deck daily with fresh water and use a brush with soft bristles and only brush along the grains in the wood and not across. Do NOT use a rotation Brush.

❚ Wash the decks with soap water once a week or two if necessary. Soap may NOT contain acids, bases or other chemicals, wich can destroy the soft grain of the teak or damage the caulking compound.

❚ We recommend using soap with a pH value between 7 and 9,5.

    What we also do

Besides our famous solid glued teak deck - we are also specialized in laminated teak, which is used as curved handrails, curved steps and benches - all made at our own workshop in Italy. Also, in this context, we must not forget our special interior outfitting in teak. We have build up a good name on the refitting where we are strong in logistic and flexibility which this for our customer is very important that the project is ready in time. This field demand good planning and tight cooperation with ship owner and yards. We have our own planning office and logistic people who work close to owner’s choice of transport companies. Off course we also do deck repair work - even if it is high quality decking, damage sometimes occur, when a lot of people are on vacantion at the same location - whether it is our own deck work or teak decks made by other companies.

    Luxury parquet floors

We have many years experience of producing luxury parquet floors for restaurants, discos, dance floors, and stages for show. Parquet floors can be made of merbau, bellinga, teak and other aligned kind of wood - just limited by your imagination. We have also developed a prafabricated cabin floor which can be installed quick and easy. The parquet is glued directly onto an aluminium base making the unit easy to handle: the quality is naturally the best in the market.
